Fred J. Loper

Wake Forest

Fred J. Loper, 88, of Wake Forest, formerly of Cambridge, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015. He was born in Barnesville, Ohio, the son of the late Fred Marion Loper and Naomi Loper (Allar).

Mr. Loper was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WW II. He attended South Dakota Wesleyn University and received his master’s degree from South Dakota University. Fred was a football coach for South Dakota Wesleyn and later moved to Cambridge in 1959 where he coached football at the high school. In 1962 he attended Toledo University and Ohio State for graduate work.  Mr. Loper became the guidance director for Cambridge City Schools until his retirement in l987.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed a good game of poker. Fred was a loving husband and father who always put his wife and children first.

Mr. Loper is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cheryl Loper (Williamson); daughter, Julie Varney and husband, Ron, of Youngsville; sons, Mark Loper  and wife, Deb, of White Cloud, Minnesota, and David Loper and wife, Liz, of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Joanne Schlie and husband, George,  of Navarre, Ohio; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Neal Loper.

A gathering to celebrate Mr. Loper’s life will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Saturday evening, February 28, 2015, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest.

Jerry Robbin Young

Kittrell

Jerry Robbin Young, 67, of Kittrell went to be with the Lord after a two-and-a-half-year battle with leukemia surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Rex Hospital.

He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Johnny Lassiter Young Sr. and Annie Willie Bridges. Mr. Young was a lifelong member of Oak Level Christian Church and any time they had a function involving food you would find Jerry right in the middle of it all cooking and serving. He and his wife also enjoyed pulling their travel trailer to the beach to fish and relax. Mr. Young was a retired property manager from The Carlyle Group and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, February 21, 2015 at Oak Level Christian Church with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 49 years, Stacie Lee Young; daughter, Lisa Young Thayer and husband, Charlie, of Franklinton; grandchildren, Jimmy Massey Jr. and wife, Brittney, of Raleigh, Justin Lee Massey of Raleigh, Alyssa Cheyann Thayer of Franklinton, Jordan Elizabeth Thayer of Roxboro and Jessica Danielle Thayer of Roxboro; great-grandchildren, Brenleigh Violet Massey and Allyson Grace Thayer; sister, Jeanette Edwards and husband, Kenneth, of Franklinton; brothers, Henry “Butch” Young of Youngsville and Terry Robert Young of Franklinton; mother-in-law, Leona “Trudy” Scarboro of Kittrell; special friend, Teresa Perry of Youngsville; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert W. Young and Johnny L. Young, Jr.

Rosa Frazier Johnson

Raleigh

Rosa Frazier Johnson, 97, of Raleigh passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Paul Frazier and Mary Jane Pearce Frazier.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday, February 22, 2015, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Falls Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Harold Johnson and wife, Nancy, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Barbara Mainwaring and husband, Graham, of Cary, Connie Norris and husband, Dennis, of Angier, Jennifer Price and husband, Jeff, of Rockwell and Lori Szczublewski and husband, Randy, of Bunn Level; great-grandchildren, Justin Barbour and wife, Heather, Jessica Barbour, Sara Price and Jeremy Price; great-great-grandchild, Noel Barbour; nephews, Jerry Frazier and Douglas Frazier, both of Wake Forest; and nieces, Nola Bailey and Janie Frazier, both of Wake Forest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonnie Lee Johnson; her son, Larry Johnson; and by her brother, Herman Frazier.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Falls Community Cemetery, Inc., 9705 Fonville Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the Rex Nursing Facility of Raleigh for the excellent and caring treatment of Rosa for the past five-plus years.
