Fundraiser today for Ashanie Russell family

The McDonald’s restaurant in Rolesville is sponsoring a fundraiser for the family of Ashanie Russell, a 2013 graduate of Wake Forest High School who was killed in an accident on Christmas Eve. His younger sister, Aaleyah, who was driving the vehicle Ashanie was riding in when the accident occurred on Capital Boulevard, is a longtime employee of the Rolesville McDonald’s.

Fifty percent of the restaurant’s sales today, Jan. 7, will be donated to the family as well as any donations made by the customers.

Aaleyah Russell and her younger brother were hospitalized because of injuries from the accident.

“We’re saddened by this unimaginable tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to Aaleyah and her family,” said Rolesville McDonald’s Owner/Operator, Carol Martin. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to be able to support someone who’s been a part of our family for the past year.”
Customers can also make a donation to support the Russell family online at www.gofundme.com/jc4x3k.

Lisa McLemore shared some information this week about the family and its need now.

“Ashanie was a football player on my son, Holden’s, team at WF-Rolesville High (now Wake Forest High). When I tell you that this young man was the kindest, happiest kid I’ve ever met, I mean it.

“He and his sister, Aaleyah, and brother, Michael, were raised with a firm, loving hand by their single mother, Jackie Grant. When I was football mom president, I was always begging for volunteers. Though she worked long hours, Jackie always made time to help volunteer at games. I had many two-parent families who did not volunteer once, but Jackie was either in the stands or helping with games. She considered it her duty as a parent.

“Now, she is getting ready to bury one child, one child is out of the hospital recovering and one is still in a coma. The bills for the funeral alone will be devastating. I have no idea how she will be able to pay the resulting medical bills.

“Thank goodness someone started a ‘go fund me’ Facebook page http://www.gofundme.com/jc4x3k  in memory of Ashanie Russell. I hope that you can somehow give coverage to this family’s dire situation.

“WFR friends and teammates are trying to get the word out about this tragedy and the resulting efforts to help this family. I think anyone who knew Ashanie feels the loss of his presence. He honestly was that great a kid.”
