725 turkeys distributed Monday

After a slow start, contributions to the Wake Forest Police Department’s eighth annual Turkey Drive picked up and officers were able to give away 725 turkeys Monday morning.

The need for the help was evident: several people arrived as early as 4 a.m. to receive their frozen turkey, Officer M.W. Sattler reported.

The turkeys went fast during the first-come, first-served event that began at 9 a.m. at the Wake Forest Community House.

“A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s Turkey Drive,” Sattler said. “The event would not be possible without the incredible assistance of area residents, businesses and other organizations whose generosity helped make the Thanksgiving holiday a little happier for hundreds of people and families in our community.”

Sattler organized the police department’s first Turkey Drive in 2007. Since then, the department has distributed over 4,000 turkeys to needy families in our area.
