Wake Forest Police Department K9 Kyra retired Thursday, Nov. 13, after seven years of dedicated service.
Kyra, a Dutch Shepherd, was not quite two years old when she joined the police force in 2007. Her human partner throughout her career was Officer M. Pender.
Certified through the North Carolina Police Dog Association (NCDA), Kyra was trained in narcotics detection, tracking, building and area searches, evidence searches, criminal apprehension and officer protection.
She will spend her retirement with Officer Pender and his family.
