To find some special gifts with great bargains within easy driving or walking distance, begin your holiday shopping Saturday in Wake Forest’s historic downtown, on and near South White Street. You will help support a thriving downtown with diverse shops and studios and shop comfortably away from the crowded malls.
Wake Forest Downtown, the merchants’ association, is sponsoring Shop Small in Downtown Wake Forest on Saturday with a special gift basket drawing at the end of the day. The basket will be filled with gift certificates and items provided by the downtown stores. Entry slips for the drawing will be available only on Saturday, Nov. 29, when you shop at participating businesses. One winner will be drawn at the end of the day.
Those businesses are Sweeties Candy Store, Purple Door Day Spa, Next Consignment Boutique, The Cotton Company, For Old Times Sake, Olde English Tea Room, Wake Forest Art and Frame, Sunflower Studios and Storyteller’s Book Store.
Downtown shops are full of amazing gift ideas, and who knows, you may get lucky and be able to check off some names on your Christmas list just by winning the basket. Or you might want to keep them all for yourself.
Nationwide, the day is Small Business Saturday, which was founded by American Express in 2010 to encourage shopping at small local businesses.
