Just a little history: Hinton was an early Wake settler

In the early 1700s, the land that is now Wake County was the west, far away from New Bern, Bath and other coastal towns. There were no roads, only game trails and Indian paths apart from the Neuse River, which is and was not always navigable due to low flows at times, flooding at others. There are no records of permanent settlers here after the Tuscarora War, 1711-1714, and the 1740s. One early settler was John Hinton, whose family still has the warrant for him to survey land along the Neuse dated November 1739. His residence is referenced in a September 1745 grant for land adjacent to his home. That first home, according to family history, was a log house on a high rocky point of land on the south side of the Neuse River, a house whose only door was above the first story with a ladder that could

Spring is here!

News from Tri-Area Monistry It won’t be long till all those buds popping out will turn to flowers and leaves. The pleasant weather is a blessing to our volunteers, as we primarily operate outdoors for sorting, packing and distributing food. 2021 wrapped up to be a record year in which we served 11,578 families (26,918 people). That’s an increase of 10% from 2020 and an increase of 30% from 2019. On 2/2/2022 we fed the most families ever in our 30-year history on a single day – 202. We were able to provide each and every one of those families with 100 pounds of food – including milk, bread, eggs, butter, meat, fruit, vegetables plus non-perishables like rice, beans, cereal, pasta and canned goods. An astounding 20,200 pounds (10 TONS) of food made its’ way to our neighbors’ tables in a single day. Because of the generosity of YOU – our

WFHS Juniorettes ask for fundraising help

During their March 16 general meeting at school, the Wake Forest High School Juniorettes made posters to put up at school to advertise an April 6 fundraiser (4 to 8 p.m. at Chipotle Mexican Grill, 11700 Retail Drive, Wake Forest) to raise money for Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Teacher Grants at the school. The Juniorettes’ faculty advisor, Helen Owens, explained how PTSA money has purchased matching navy-blue tops/pants with the school’s embroidered name on them for her student interns to wear at work. As a class requirement, the interns work several hours per week in two local pre-schools. The matching scrubs help to make the student interns look professional on the job. PTSA Teacher Grants have funded many other supplemental requests for teachers at the school: books, software, storage bins, a garment rack, kitchen supplies, arts supplies, a microwave oven, a digital camera, and more. Fundraiser details: Order Chipotle food
