Two libraries on tap for area

Within the next four years, two Wake County libraries will open in Wakefield and Wake Forest. The Wakefield library will be the Northeast Regional Library at Forest Pine Drive and Green Elm Street at 20,000 square feet and many amenities. Groundbreaking is anticipated for this coming November; it should open in January of 2016. The complete renovation and expansion of the Wake Forest Library on East Holding Avenue is planned to be complete in the spring of 2018. Terri Luke, the senior library manager for facilities and security, was the speaker last week at the annual meeting of the Friends of Wake Forest Library, and she discussed the new library building and renovation program just getting underway after a halt during the recession. Luke said the plans for the Northeast Regional Library were 95 percent complete when the county stopped all construction plans late in 2008 because of the economy.

No curbside mail for new residents

At some undefined date within the past year the U.S. Postal Service decided not to continue to provide curbside (roadside) mail delivery to individual homes in new residential subdivisions in North Carolina and perhaps in other states. There are a lot of unanswered questions, some of which were summed up by Wake Forest Senior Planner Charlie Yokley. “I’m not sure what the effective date was. We were not notified by the Post Office of the change; we only found out about it when developers called us to ask how they should handle this requirement. It’s still a little murky for us as we are still working with the Post Office and developers to figure out how to handle placement and design of the kiosks.” Yokley said the affected subdivisions include Traditions, The Reserve, Kings Glen, Tryon, Holding Village, The Regency at Heritage, Stone Mill Falls and The Homestead at Heritage. Town adds new express service

The Wake Forest Inspections Department is pleased to introduce Express Residential Plan Review (ERPR). A real-time permit application review program for specific residential additions and renovations, ERPR may also be used for accessory structures, such as decks, covered porches, sunrooms, sheds and garages. The ERPR process is designed to bring together the town’s plans examiner and the applicant to actively review projects and discuss, revise and make changes to drawings in person to ensure zoning and building code compliance. Projects are considered for ERPR by appointment only on Thursday mornings between 8 a.m. and noon. To participate in this program the contractor must be present during the review, which depending on the scope of the project could take an hour or more. Although the goal of ERPR is same-day permit issuance, the determining factor will be the severity of any non-compliant submittals. For more information or to schedule an ERPR
