Skate to help Make a Wish

Faith and Bob Pitino, backed by Polar Ice House, N.C. State, the Carolina Hurricanes and a long list of Wake Forest businesses, are hosting a free skate and fund-raising party for the Make-a-Wish Foundation on Friday, Sept. 9, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

There will be a raffle and a silent auction where the top prize, courtesy of Polar Ice House, is an ice-skating birthday package. The ice house, Bob Pitino said, “. . . also donated a percentage of admissions that evening.”

He explained how the couple became involved with Make-a-Wish. “I became involved with Make a Wish last January when I signed up for the Trailblaze Challenge, a 24.8-mile hike from Hanging Rock to Pilot Mountain. After the hike last May, my wife and I became Wish Granters, becoming more involved in the mission of Make a Wish (to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy). I have decided to do the hike again as one way to raise additional funds. We also began reaching out to local businesses and received an awesome response.”

Those local donors include Shuckers, American Pride Car Wash, Golden Corral, Mellow Mushroom, The Skin Spa of Wake Forest, Jelly Beans, Milton’s, Harris-Teeter, Sweet Traditions, Carolina Ale House, Goodberry’s, Lumpy’s Ice Cream and La Foresta.

  1. Stop taking down the trees. Our name is Wake Forest. This place is looking so sad with all the trees being moved down. Virginia has a policy that a treed buffer zone must be left at the road side. Looks so nice. Why can’t we do similar.
