Parks/greenway plan on town agenda

Next Tuesday night the Wake Forest Town Board will hear about a comprehensive wayfinding plan for the Wake Forest parks and greenways at the start of their meeting.

The mayor and commissioners will also hear the annual reports from the town’s advisory boards.

There will be three public hearings about annexation requests. The one from Iris Stoutt is for almost 30 acres which could become the Courtyards at Heritage subdivision. The commissioners will consider the request to rezone the property for the subdivision later in the meeting.

The largest annexation request is for the first phase of Holding Village requested by WSR HV (Wheelock Street Residential Holding Village and ALF Holding Village (American Land Fund) for 96.79 acres on South Franklin Street and Forestville Road. The grading and infrastructure work underway and the future construction are following the master plan approved in 2007.

There will also be an annexation request submitted by Gould Property Group for 1.98 acres on Wait Avenue that was recently rezoned to become part of Bowling Green subdivision.

The fourth public hearing will air the town’s intent to sell property at 423 Sixth Avenue to Kirk L. Golder. Planning Director Chip Russell told the board during last week’s work session that the town had owned the property since 1980 when the town had community block grants to improve housing and infrastructure.

The commissioners will consider the two items from the planning board meeting, rezoning requests for the Courtyards at Heritage subdivision and for Wake Forest Baptist Church for its new educational and fellowship building.

They will also be asked to approve an agreement with the state Department of Transportation for the long-needed construction of Grandmark Avenue to connect Capcom Avenue with Rogers Road. The agreement calls for a $110,000 grant from DOT. The town has money in its unpaved streets fund and the adjoining owners will also pay part of the cost of construction, which is not known yet because the engineering design work has not been done.

At the end of the agenda a closed session is listed to consider condemning a greenway easement along Sanford Creek near Forestville Road.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 21, in the second-floor meeting room. If you would like to speak to the mayor and commissioners about a topic that is not on the agenda, please call or email Town Clerk Deeda Harris at 919-435-9413 or dharris@wakeforestnc.gov.
