CenturyLink offering teacher grants

CenturyLink, through its Clarke M. Williams Foundation, is now accepting applications from teachers for its Teachers and Technology grant program. Fulltime classroom teachers in public or private schools, grades kindergarten through 12, are eligible to apply.

“We are very pleased to be a part of providing innovative technology in the classroom that enhances the learning experience for students in these schools,” said Rondi Furgason, CenturyLink vice president and general manager for central and eastern North Carolina. “It is exciting to see teachers implement creative teaching techniques that assist students in hands-on learning.”

Last year, more than 65 North Carolina teachers applied for grants, with 20 state winners selected by a review committee comprised of community members and CenturyLink representatives.

Franklin Academy in Wake Forest was awarded the following grants to be used to purchase technology to benefit students in the classroom:

Franklin Academy Middle School in Wake Forest was awarded $1,900 to purchase three Polar H7 Team Management Systems that integrate technology and physical fitness by monitoring athletes training records. Each athlete’s individual training sessions are recorded and saved so a coach can look at the athlete’s development over time. Physical Education Instructor Jay Paradowski submitted the project that benefits students grades 6-8.

Franklin Academy Elementary School in Wake Forest was awarded $492 to purchase a Wii console and accessories to allow students to learn about fractions, percentages, and to promote physical activity all while making learning fun. Second Grade Instructor Jessica Dobyns submitted the project which benefis first and second graders.

CenturyLink service is neither required nor considered in the review of applications.

The Foundation will award more than $1.4 million in grants to support technology in the classroom through its 2014-2015 Teachers and Technology program, offered throughout the company’s service areas in the U.S.
