Jones Wayne ‘Joey’ Hart Jr.

Joey Hart, 53, of Kittrell died Friday evening, July 18, 2014. He was born in Wake County, the son of Carolyn Lowery Allen and the late Jones Wayne Hart Sr.

A memorial service honoring his life was held at 7 o’clock Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Waiden and the Rev. Bruce Tucker officiating.

Joey is survived by his mother and step-father, Carolyn and Donald Wayne Allen of Kittrell; a sister, Karen Cooke and husband, Joseph, of Wake Forest; a niece and nephew, Lindsey Cooke and Wesley Cooke; and by a special friend, Whitney Abbott.

Loretta P. Hight

Loretta P. Hight, 76, of Wake Forest died Saturday evening, July 19, 2014, at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Gertrude Branch Pridgen and Joseph Vernon Pridgen, and was retired from ABB (Westinghouse) in Raleigh.

A memorial service honoring her life was held at 7:30 Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014, at the Wake Forest Church of God with Pastor Phillip Lyon, Pastor Mike Wells and Pastor Jesse Pimentel officiating.

Mrs. Hight is survived by her husband, Donnie Hight; a daughter, Linda Hight of Youngsville; a son, Glenn Hight of Wake Forest, a sister, Patricia Stephens and husband, Russell, of Rolesville; four grandchildren, Jeff Bland Christopher Bland, Austin Bland and Matthew Hight; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family would like to thank the staff of Transitions Life Care and Wake Medical Center CICU for the wonderful care that they gave to Mrs. Hight.

Ruth Blalock Rogers

Ruth Helen Blalock Rogers, 94, of Raleigh passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh. She was a resident of Haywood County all her of life and a life-long member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church where she was very active until she moved to Raleigh in 2004.

Ruth was the wife of S.L. Rogers with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death in 2003. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for over 50 years, sang in the church choir and enjoyed serving in the United Methodist Women in her member church and district offices.

Mrs. Rogers was pleased to use her talent as a hairdresser for many years to help her friends and family look their best. She was a wonderful cook and appreciated the bounty of the garden that her husband raised each year in Clyde. Ruth loved living in the mountains and the simple joys of each day. One of her favorite Bible verses was Psalms 121:1-2, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

After losing her home in a hurricane in 2004, Ruth relocated to Raleigh to be near her daughter and found new friends and activities at her new home, The Gardens of Wakefield. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed. The way she lived her life with unwavering faith in God will be her legacy.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, July 21, 2014, in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Canton with the Rev. Daniel Gaddy and the Rev. Oscar Dowdle officiating. Entombment was in the Crawford Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her son, Mike and wife, Maxene, of Bluffton, S.C.; daughter, Belinda Haynes and husband, Doug, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jim Haynes and wife, Gay, of Raleigh, Nancy Moseley and husband, Chip, of Louisburg, Michele Thatcher and husband, Mike, of Plano, Texas, and Melanie Bell and husband Mike, of Dallas, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mamie Blalock; five brothers, Howell, Ayward, Quenton, Fred and Ben Blalock; and by two sisters, Ola Robinson and Hazel Miller.

Ruth Hurley Nicholson

Ruth Hurley Nicholson, 89, formerly of Wake Forest, the daughter of Robert William Hurley Sr. and Annie Ruth Williamson of Macon, Georgia, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014. She received an undergraduate degree from Mary Washington College, and then a masters degree from Columbia University. Mrs. Nicholson taught at Auburn University, Meredith College and North Carolina State University while raising her four children with her husband, Russell Cobb Nicholson Jr. She was a wonderful Southern lady who will be greatly missed by all.

A Catholic graveside service was held at 10:30 Saturday morning, July 19, 2014, at Raleigh Memorial Park where she will rest beside her late husband.

Mrs. Nicholson is survived by her four children, her daughter, Hurley, and sons Russell, Elliott and Bob. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert William Hurley Jr. of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Edna Jeannene Smith

Mrs. Edna Jeannene Smith of Franklinton was welcomed into the arms of her Savior surrounded by devoted family and friends on July 15, 2014. Mrs. Smith was born Edna Jeannene Price to Fred F. and Edna M. Price in Canton and resided in Michigan for many years.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Wickie Smith, with whom she shared 50 years of matrimony. Also surviving are her children, Eric Smith (Adrienne), Mark Smith (Mary-Ryan) and Julie Smith. Surviving siblings are Fred D. Price (Wanda), Lynda Fowler (Gary), Patricia Phillips (Larry), Terry Price (Cathy), Warren Price (Julie), and Vickie Price. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her brother, David Price. She is also survived by her grandson, Jeffrey Smith; granddaughter, Nikki O’Toole (Joe); and great granddaughter Zoey Rae O’Toole.

Mrs. Smith, an alumna of Mars Hill College, was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest and resided in Franklin County since 1994. She will long be remembered for her love of family, the Blue Ridge Mountains, caring for her father for many years, her hospitality and Christian faith, as a member of the Wake Forest Garden Club, and her love of flowers.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Anders Rice Funeral Home, Asheville, with Rev. Preston E. Wagner officiating. Visitation with the family precedes the memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. Following the memorial service, there will be a graveside service at Little Sandy Methodist Cemetery, Leicester.

Julius W. Wheeler

Julius Winston Wheeler, 89, of Franklinton died Sunday, July 20, 2014. He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late David and Zelma Wheeler, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II.

Mr. Wheeler was retired from CP&L as a printing department supervisor after 36 years of service and was a member of Millbrook Lodge #97 A.F. & A.M and a member of the Wake County Shrine Club. He was also a member of Saint James United Methodist Church in Raleigh for 53 years, where he served as president of his Sunday School Class, and was a member of Franklinton American Legion Post 57.

Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 2014, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. John White officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery with Masonic rites and military honors.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his children, Marilyn Wheeler Pendergraph and husband, Robin, of Raleigh and David White Wheeler and wife, Rose Marie, of Youngsville; grandchildren, Shane Gupton and wife, Shirley, of Pine Level and Justin Wheeler of Raleigh; brother, Harold Wheeler and wife, Doris, of Franklinton; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Gupton and Alexis Gupton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Pergerson Wheeler; brother, Fred Wheeler; and his sister, Christine Wheeler White.

Alice Faye Height Wood

Alice Faye Height Wood, 69, of Louisburg died Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Annie Belle Clifton Height and Calvin McDowell “Mack” Height, and was preceded in death by her siblings, J.C. and Johnny Height and Annie Height Cash. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Jeans; her children, Barbara Carter and husband, Mike, Jimmy “Jim” Wood and wife, Jeanette, Ronnie Wood, Teresa Werkheiser and husband, Rick; grandchildren, Carrie and Kevin Carter, Tiffany and Jennifer Wood, Tara and Jocyln Werkheiser and Tyler Alford; great-grandchildren, Leah and Leo Althiser, Caylee, Chelsey and Cayden Arnold; and a special friend, Travis Carter.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to Jim Wood to help with some of the funeral expenses: 70 Jeans Lane Louisburg, NC 27549.
