Obituaries

Albert H. Maxwell Jr.

Feb. 21, 1937-May 29, 2014

Albert Herr (Al) Maxwell Jr. of Rolesville died suddenly on Thursday, May 29, 2014. He was born on February 21, 1937, in Asheville and was the loyal son of the late Albert H. Maxwell Sr. and Nelda Wilson Maxwell. He grew up in Morganton and then attended college at NC State University, where he received his BS in Electrical Engineering. Al began working at Westinghouse after graduating in 1959 and continued there until his retirement in 2000.

He was preceded in death by Linda Pitts Maxwell after 34 years of marriage.

Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 11 years, Sandra Jean Maxwell and her three children; Becky Irwin, and her husband, Phil, Bill Wells and his wife, Wendy, and Greg Wells. Also surviving are their grandchildren; Nick and Lindsay Irwin, Calvin and Kelsi Wells, Amanda Berube and one great-grandson, Geoffrey.

He was the sweetest Daddy to his two daughters, Elizabeth Maxwell Fondo and Sarah Maxwell Collins. He was the very proud grandfather of Ashley and Jacob Naegele, Maxwell, Davis and Wade Collins. He is also survived by his only brother, James Maxwell. He was loved by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and one special son-in-law, Luis Fondo. He will be missed by many dear friends and neighbors.

If you knew Al you would surely agree he was the perfect picture of God’s fruits of the spirit; love, joy, long suffering, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5: 22-23)

A strong, close family was a vital part of his life. Spending quality time enjoying family, finding beauty in all things in nature, and corny jokes and puns were some of his favorite things. He was a gentle man and a true gentleman. If he could whisper some things to us now, he might say these words:

“I thank you for the love each has shown. But now it’s time I traveled on…though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear… All my love around you soft and clear… And then, when you must come this way, I’ll greet you with a smile and welcome home.”

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your heart’s be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

A memorial service was conducted at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2014, at Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest.

The family would like to sincerely thank the friends and family who have expressed their sympathy at this sad time.

Al was an active member at Hope Lutheran Church and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 3525 Rogers Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
