J. Dale Sholl

Rolesville

Joseph Dale Sholl of Rolesville died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Rex Hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Pittsburgh, the only son of Beulah (Etter) and Joseph V. Sholl of Kennedy Township, Pennsylvania. He is the beloved husband of Rosemarie Simione Sholl, originally of Youngstown Ohio. They had just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on June 25.

Dale and Rosemarie were the proud parents of Elizabeth Sholl Purdy, who passed away in August of 2015. He is survived by his grandchildren, Logan and Sophia Purdy, as well as Rosemarie’s sister, Joanne Higgins of Raleigh.

In all his hometowns, Dale was active with his churches, serving as deacon and elder, and with service organizations, including Optimists, Kiwanis, Rotary, and in Rolesville, the Moose. In Raleigh, he was a member of North Ridge Country Club.

Dale worked in human resources and personnel with General Motors during his career. His final position was personnel director for Delphi Corp., having worked at Terex and Inland divisions, GM Central Office ( Detroit), as well as Delphi.

He graduated from Montour High, where he was president of his graduating class. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Westminster College, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. His MBA was earned from Kent State University.  He served in the Ohio National Guard for six years.

A celebration of Dale’s life as a loving husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend will be held at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, July 14, 2016, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Robert Ray Summerlin, 76, of Wake Forest died Monday morning, July 11, 2016. He was born in Edgecombe County, the son of the late Rosa Lee and Robert Oscar Summerlin, and was retired from Novozymes. Robert served in the N.C. National Guard for six years including six months of active duty.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, July 14, 2016, at the Macclesfield Cemetery in Macclesfield with the Rev. Douglas Owens officiating.

Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna O. Summerlin; step-sisters, Vivian Barnes and Diane Parnell of Wilson; step-brother, John Griffin of Wilson; special aunts, Shelby Forkey of Westminster, Massachusetts, and Faye Leach of Brainerd, Minnesota; and by a lot of extended family, beach family and friends. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna, Faye, and Mamie, all of Wilson.
