Nominate now for annual awards

Since 1965 Wake Forest has been honoring one of its own as the citizen of the year, and during the years since two more awards have been added for club or organization of the year and the Peggy Allen Lifetime Achievement Award.

Everyone living in and around Wake Forest may nominate people and groups for the awards. Those nominations have to be received at the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce by the close of business Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The nominations are considered by the members of the Wake Forest Community Council during its meeting on Nov. 12 and voting is by secret ballot.

The winners are announced during the annual Community Christmas Dinner at The Forks Cafeteria, which this year will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the dinner will be available soon. The Gazette will provide information about the purchase next week.

To nominate for any or all of the awards, go to www.wakeforestnc.gov/community-council.aspx. You will find a description of each award along with a way to download the nomination form. You must print it out, fill it out and send or deliver it to the chamber to Carolyn Furr’s attention.

The town’s website also has a description of the community council and its membership. All groups, clubs and organizations in and near town are encouraged to pay the $10 annual membership fee and attend, and individual memberships are also encouraged.

The community council meets between September and May at noon every second Wednesday and meetings are held to about an hour. People are encouraged to purchase lunch to eat during the meeting to thank Karen and Don Winstead, who provide the free meeting room.
