Meet all the candidates Monday

Probably the most candidates who have ever assembled in Wake Forest will be here to meet voters Monday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street at an event sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce.

It is a free event open to all because it replaces the candidate forum the chamber usually sponsors. There will also be a dinner – tickets are $10 – that will be served during the event. People are encouraged to purchase their dinner tickets early at www.wakeforestchamber.org but they will be available at the door.

Now to the candidates. The list is headed by the candidates for U.S. House of Representatives District 13, incumbent Republican George Holding and Democrat Brenda Cleary.

Immediately afterward there are four candidates for the North Carolina Senate, Republican John Alexander and Democrat Tom Bradshaw vying for District 15 and Republican incumbent Chad Barefoot and Democrat Sarah Crawford who are contesting for District 18.

There are four candidates for N.C. House seats. Democratic Brian Mountcastle is challenging incumbent Republican Chris Malone for the District 35 seat. Incumbent Republican Marilyn Avila is being challenged by Democrat Margaret Broadwell for the District 40 seat.

Supreme Court Justices Robin Hudson, Ola Lewis, and Mike Robinson will attend.

Also attending will be the two candidates for Clerk of Superior Court, Democrat Sam Bridges and Republican Jennifer Knox, and Lorrin Freeman, the Democratic candidate for District Attorney District 10, will be on hand.

Vying for the District 1 seat on the Wake County Board of Commissioners are Democrat Sig Hutchinson and incumbent Republican Joe Bryan, and they will attend along with the candidates for District 2, Democrat Matt Calabria and incumbent Republican Phil Matthews. Democrat Jessica Holmes, running for the District 3 seat, will attend along with Democrat John Burns, trying for the District 7 seat.

The two candidates for Wake County Sheriff will attend, incumbent Republican Donnie Harrison and Democratic challenger Willie Rowe.

Wake Forest Finance Director Aileen Staples will also attend to tell people about the upcoming bond issues for parks and recreation, greenways, and streets and sidewalks.

The gold sponsor of this event is Hartsfield and Nash Insurance Agency, Inc. Silver sponsors are Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Village Pharmacy of Wake Forest.
