Market thrives even in the rain

Last Saturday was soggy; this coming Saturday promises even more rain if the weathermen are correct. But nothing stops the loyal vendors and customers at the Wake Forest Farmers Market which is open every Saturday in the spring, summer and fall.

There are questions for the coming Saturday. Will there still be some blueberries and blackberries? Will there be sweet corn? You can bet there will be tomatoes and mini-greens, some kale, some black-eyed peas, lots of squash, peppers, potatoes, beans and carrots.

There will still be lots of meat in many cuts and preparations – beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb and rabbit – along with eggs.

You can get fresh-roasted coffee, honey, sweet buns, cookies, Danish, cakes, muffins, empanadas, and a range of gluten-free baked goods. Take home a bouquet or two of fresh cut flowers. Pick up a Saturday night supper of pasta and your choice of sauce.

For newcomers, the market is in the parking lot at the corner of North White Street and Roosevelt Avenue behind CVS and it is open from 8 a.m. to noon.

Local Master Gardeners man a tent every week to provide answers about gardening questions, and area veterans man a tent to sell raffle tickets and tickets to events that help area veterans.

See the market on Facebook, take a look at all the vendors and their wares as well as special events at www.wakeforestfarmersmarket.org or call 919-671-9269 if you need information.
