On Monday, Sept. 14, the Wake Forest Parks, Recre Culturaation &l Resources Department began offering limited access by registration only to Joyner Park Community Center, Flaherty Park Community Center, Wake Forest Community House and Alston-Massenburg Center.
Joyner Park is at 701 Harris Road, Flaherty Park is at 1226 North White Street, the Wake Forest Community House is at 133 West Owen Avenue and the Alston-Massenburg Center is at 416 North Taylor Street.
Closed to the public since March due to COVID-19, these facilities have reopened with the following limited operating hours:
- Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-Noon; Noon-4 p.m. (Business Hours only); 4-8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, 8 a.m.-Noon
- Sunday – Closed
Before entering any of these facilities, visitors must register in advance online at https://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/Community/Home. No walk-ins will be allowed. Online registration began Friday, Sept. 11.
Activities will be scheduled in one-hour blocks, with 30 minutes in between to allow staff to clean and sanitize the facility, including equipment, chairs, door handles, handrails and other high-touch areas. Patrons may only register for one time slot per day for pickleball open play at the Joyner Park Community Center and the Flaherty Park Community Center and usage of the fitness room and walking track, both at Joyner Park.
Capacity inside each facility will not be allowed to exceed prescribed limits. Visitors will be required to wear face coverings inside each facility except when strenuously exercising and maintaining an appropriate social distance from others. Showers and indoor drinking fountains will remain turned off until further notice. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own water bottle for classes and fitness programs as needed.
Wake Forest residents and non-residents ages 11 and older must have a Recreation Card (Rec Card) to access amenities offered at PRCR facilities, including JPCC and FPCC. Rec Cards are free for Wake Forest residents. The following fees apply for people who live outside the Wake Forest town limits and do not pay Wake Forest property taxes: Individual, $25; Family, $50. Any non-residents who prefer not to purchase a Rec Card, must pay a $5 Non-Rec Card Holder fee to utilize the amenities. An online profile must be created, and the fee paid to register for selected activity time slots.
To obtain a Rec Card, first create an online profile at https://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/Community/Membership. Then, visit the Joyner Park Community Center, the Flaherty Park Community Center or the Alston-Massenburg Center during weekday business hours (Monday-Friday, noon-4 p.m.) to have your picture taken and present proof of residency. Acceptable forms of proof include a valid picture ID with your current address, a current utility bill with your street address, or other document that includes your full name and address.
Current non-resident Rec Card holders will receive an extension on their current membership, so renewals are not necessary at this time. For more information about Rec Cards, call 919-435-9560.
Community health and safety is the top priority for the Town of Wake Forest. The situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, so Town facilities are subject to close with limited notice. Wake Forest officials will continue to closely monitor updates and follow guidelines from the Wake County Health Department, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control . These guidelines have been implemented in protocols established by the Town to address potential exposure to the coronavirus and protect our community and staff.
