Town board approves Radford Glen

(The televised Wake Forest Town Board meeting Tuesday night on Channel 10 began with 30-plus minutes of darkness with no sound, finally was normal for about 20 minutes and broke off again in the middle of Jim Adams’ request to waive the development and building fees for an expansion of Hope House.

(The following is a reprise of the actions taken provided by Town Clerk Deeda Harris.)

After a long journey, 47 acres on the south side of Wait Avenue were unanimously approved by the Wake Forest Town Board for a subdivision holding 167 single-family houses and 10 townhouses. The planning board had similarly unanimously recommended approval on Sept. 1. (See the Sept. 2 Gazette for a full description of the future subdivision.)

In other actions the board voted 4 to 0 (Commissioner Bridget Wall-Lennon was absent) to approve:

*one-way traffic on Jones Avenue from South Brooks Street to South Taylor Street. Jones is already one-way (south) from South White to South Brooks.

*a reimbursement agreement with the City of Raleigh for the Rogers Branch Road water line.

*changes in the Unified Development Ordinance to reflect new state regulations about stormwater, floodplain and erosion and sediment control.

*a text amendment to the UDO to include the creation of the Smith Creek Watershed Management Area and Little River Watershed Management Area Overlay Districts.

During the public comment section of the meeting, Jim Adams asked the board to waive the fees for an addition at the Hope House, and the board agreed to waive fees up to $4,000.

After the regular agenda, the board discussed making June 19, Juneteenth, a holiday. But it was decided instead to create a $50,000 annual fund for the holiday, a fund that will be used by town residents who are having problems providing maintenance for their homes. The goal is to keep those residents in their homes. Staff will include the fund in the 2021 budget process.
