High-speed internet installation on hold

This week Daniel Limerick, CEO of RST Fiber, said the cable connection between Wake Forest and Raleigh which is essential to bringing high-speed internet and other services to town, is not complete “as we are waiting on federal permits to be issued.”

That means there are no RST customers in Wake Forest although the company, using Piedmont Utility, has been actively installing fiber optic lines in Crenshaw Hall and Crenshaw Manor subdivisions. Although the word was that customers in Waterfall subdivision were next in line for installation, Limerick said, “I do not believe anything in Waterfall is installed and we will have a clearer picture of continued construction and time frames when the issues pending are cleared for our go ahead.”

The permit in question is apparently one to be issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow the fiber conduit to cross the Neuse River. There may be other permits required, but by press time Wednesday afternoon Limerick had not answered an email about the permits.
