Franklin Street Apartments on board agenda

The Wake Forest Town Board’s agenda for its Feb. 18 meeting includes a vote on the proposed 106-unit Franklin Street Apartments that was recommended by the planning board last week.

Much of the opposition by neighbors centered on the dangerous traffic situation at the nearby intersection of Franklin Street with the N.C. 98 bypass, the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway.

The meeting next Tuesday, which begins at 7 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room, will begin with a public hearing about the town budget for fiscal year 2014-2015. This is the time for people to tell the commissioners what they want to see in the town.

The commissioners will also:

* consider a $26,000 contract with Jim Hirschfield and Sonya Ishii to prepare a public art master plan for the town’s greenways and provide two public art designs for specific sites.

* consider text amendments to town ordinances dealing with water issues. The amendments have been recommended by state and other agencies that reviewed the new Uniform Development Ordinance.

* consider support and an appropriation of funds to extend Grandmark Street to Capcom Avenue, giving deadend Capcom a second entrance/exit.

* go into a closed session with the town attorney, who will describe the current state of negotiations between Duke Power Progress and the eastern power agency which could result in Duke purchasing the portions of its plants that Wake Forest and other towns own. The result could be a reduction in electric rates for customers of Wake Forest Power.

There is always a section of the meeting for public comment. If you wish to speak on a topic that is not on the agenda, call or email Town Clerk Deeda Harris at 919-435-9413, dharris@wakeforestnc.gov by 3 p.m. on the meeting day.
