Find origami and quilts at Saturday’s market

Some of the artists from Wake Forest ARTS will be in the children’s at the Wake Forest Farmers Market Saturday, Aug. 30, to demonstrate – and help children make – origami butterflies. They probably would even teach a tractable adult or two.

Another visiting group is the Ladies of Valor who will be selling raffle tickets for one of their beautiful quilts they make for wounded veterans. They will use the money for materials to make more quilts. Buy a few tickets; you can never have too many quilts.

The veterans over in the American Legion/VFW tent always have a little hustle going, and this time it is a raffle to win a Gold Book.

Always near or beside them are the volunteer Master Gardeners, who can only offer soil testing kits, but it is very valuable to learn what is in your soil. One gardener found he had off-the-chart levels of zinc because, he finally learned, the former owner of his house installed underground fuel tanks and dumped the unused pipe behind the barn where the new owner wanted to raise tomatoes.

The live music this week will be provided by Dry Bread Road. Remember the market does not pay the performers so put a few bills in the tip jar.

And – oh, yes – you will find a wide selection of in-season locally raised, naturally raised vegetables along with all kinds of meats and eggs. Vendors offer cheeses, pastas and sauces, breads, baked goods, coffee, peacock feathers, knit goods, jewelry, honey and garlic. There is almost always something and something delicious at the market.

You can find the market and its vendors in the parking lot behind CVS with entrances on North White Street and Roosevelt Avenue, this using the drive-in for CVS. It is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon until the end of November when it will begin its winter hours.

See the market on Facebook, take a look at all the vendors and their wares as well as special events at www.wakeforestfarmersmarket.org or call 919-671-9269 if you need information.
