Find 20 artists in three galleries

19th annual Tour of Artists will be Sept. 6 and 7

One of the delights of the annual Tour of Artists is to watch artists making their art, showing how you too can turn a blank canvas into a watercolor landscape or a portrait done in oils.

This year there will be so many demonstrations visitors may not be able to see them all, particularly if you stop at three galleries in downtown Wake Forest – the Artists’ Nook, Wake Forest Art & Frame Shop and Sunflower Studio & Gallery.

There will be 20 artists in these three spaces, and 12 of the artists will be demonstrating their techniques.

In the Artists’ Nook next to Mimosa, both Mary Benejam and Trish Nardozzi will be demonstrating using oils.

Bonnie Becker will demonstrate her watercolor techniques in Wake Forest Art & Frame. Also in that shop you will find professional portrait artist M. Theresa Brown, who will be working in pastels; shop owner Beth Massey showing how to work in ink; and Jamie Miller, who works in acrylics. Acrylic artist Micah Mullen will also show his art at the shop.

Around the corner on Jones Street you will find even more variety of techniques and artists at Sunflower Studio & Gallery. Gayle Blackerby is well known for her colorful abstracts, and she will demonstrate acrylic painting, but her husband, Steve, who designs and crafts home furnishings, bowls and kitchen utensils, will show visitors how to work in wood.

Tammy Kaufmann will demonstrate how she works in pastels; Marti King specializes in watercolor, but is currently making jeweled creations such as scarves and hair ornaments, and she demonstrate working with beads; Margaret Roth will talk about capturing moment in pastels; and Cyndy Wolf, a jeweler, will demonstrate her jewelry techniques.

All the galleries and studios on the tour will be open Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 7, from noon to 5 p.m.
