Clearing and grading is underway for the first neighborhood in the Holding Village subdivision. You can see it from the extension of South Franklin Street which runs north from Rogers Road, and an announcement about it is expected soon.

Once part of the 900-plus acres of the Holding family’s dairy farm and originally planned by family members, the traditional neighborhood development was approved in 2007 for 462 single-family homes, 583 apartments and 305 other living units including townhouses, duplexes and live/work units (apartments above stores and studios). There would be 40,000 square feet of business and office use, 48,000 square feet for retail and 25,000 square feet for civic, church and club activities.

The Holding family sold 256 acres for Holding Village and its approved plan to American Land Fund, an investment firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the summer of 2010. In turn, ALF partnered with Reader & Partners of Orlando, Florida, for the development of the property.

Late in 2013 ALF sold 38.28 acres to Wheelock Street, a Connecticut firm which also owns and is developing another Wake Forest subdivision, Traditions, for $1,073,000, according to the Wake County website.

The announcement of the sale said Wheelock and Reader plan to develop about 120 home sites this year. It was later learned that first neighborhood would be called South Lake at Holding Village.
