FCAC keeps arts alive in Franklin County

Encaustic Workshops – Tuesday, Nov. 18, 6 to 9 p.m. at FCAC Headquarters, 22 South Main Street, Franklinton. Instructor Lauri Arsten, (http://www.arts-n.com/), will teach beginners and experienced students the history of encaustics and how this unusual sticky stuff became a popular medium for fine art. Participants will see demos, receive instruction and practice learning the techniques for applying the hot wax to ensure durability and strength. Learning basic painting methods in the first class and be intrigued enough to sign up for additional courses to learn transfer, embedding and mixed media skills. Everyone will go home with at least one piece of artwork in each workshop. Projects include choice of 4”x4” tile, switch plate, or magnet. $65/class FCAC members. $75/class non-members, plus $20 for materials. Ages 18 and up. Deadline is Nov. 16 to register for all classes. Student Arts Council Reorganization Meeting – Monday, Nov. 17 –3:30 to 5 p.m. – at FCAC Headquarters, 22 S. Main St. Franklinton. Open to all youth up to age 18 with an interest in the arts. Brainstorming/planning session. Refreshments. Email DonnaCampbellSmith@gmail.com for info.

FCAC Annual Meeting and Dinner – Thursday, Nov. 20, begins 6:30 p.m. at Johnny’s on Main  Street in Franklinton. Entertainment by the Blues Rockets The business meeting will begin at 8p p.m $11/person buffet dinner, cash bar. RSVP and send payment to FCAC, PO Box 758, Louisburg, NC 27549 or pay online at www.FCAC.org by Nov 7th.

Annual Historic Christmas Cheer – Wednesday, Dec. 3, 3:45 to 5 p.m. at Person Place, 605 N. Main St., Louisburg. Children will hang ornaments they made and trim the Christmas tree and then perform Christmas Carols on the front porch. Refreshments served after the performance. Free to the public.

FCAC Art Stroll –Thursday, Dec. 4 in downtown Franklinton from 5 to 7:30p.m. Christmas stories told by Gale Buck at the FCAC Gallery, music by the Blues Rockets in Amariah’s Gift and Calligraphy Shop. Bluegrass Jam starts at 6:30 at Johnny’s on Main, Carolers and  Christmas music on the street. Refreshments will be served in the gallery featuring Christmas Cookies made by FCAC members. A drawing for door prizes will be held at 7 p.m.

County Lines Literary Reading  — FCAC Writers Guild has had to change the location of our launch party and reading for the Second Edition of County Lines: A Literary Journal. We will have the program at Vance Granville Community College, 8100 N. C. 56 Highway, Louisburg. In building 4. Here is the link if you want to download directions and map 8100 N. The program will begin at 6 p.m. with readings by the contributors, refreshments nd books will be available for purchase $10.00 each.

Christmas at Home Art Show – Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to -2 p.m. at the historic home of Dr. Mark and Mrs. Mona La Branch, 213 N. Main St., Louisburg.  $25/members, $35/non-members to show art. Free to the public. Come enjoy refreshments and meet the artists as you shop for unique Christmas gifts of art. Entry form for art show is available at www.fcacarts.org under “Call to Artists.”
