Commissioners, planners have short agendas

Second Tuesdays are almost always busy at Wake Forest Town Hall because the town commissioners and mayor meet at 5:30 p.m. for a work session in the second-floor meeting chamber followed closely sometimes by the Wake Forest Planning Board at 7:30 p.m.

There will be both meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 2, but both promise to be short and without controversy.

The town board will hear about a new software program allowing town employees to handle their paychecks. They will be asked to give assent to a memorandum of understanding between the town and Wake Forest Arts under which Wake Forest Arts will support the programming and fund-raising at the Renaissance Centre. Finally there will be a discussion about the town’s minimum housing standards and the town’s actions to remove a dilapidated house at 207 Caddell Street.

Finance Director Aileen Staples will present the town’s customer care policy, and Information Technology Director Tom LaBarge will provide information about wi-fi for the Renaissance Area.

The draft agenda for the board’s Aug. 16 meeting lists a second presentation of the proposed electric rates with no indication whether the rates will be approved at the meeting.

When the planning board assembles in the meeting room at 7:30 p.m, there will be only one item for them to consider, a request from the planning staff to amend the text in Chapter 5 (Building Design Standards), Chapter 9 (Parking & Driveways), and Chapter 15 (Administration) of the Unified Development Ordinance.

The agenda and its staff report expanding on each of the items can be found at the town website: http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/planning.aspx.

The more interesting part of the agenda is the list of projects that will need quasi-judicial review in the future. They are a plan for 12 townhouses on South Franklin Street; a continuation of the Traditions subdivision; a request to use a house at 409 Pearce Avenue for a bed and breakfast; and a new business on an outparcel at the Gateway Commons Shopping Center.

    1. Because very often the town board or/and the planning board have agenda items that draw a lot of interest and people to the meetings.

      1. The editor goofed — those meetings are held on the first Tuesday. I apologize.
