Celebrate Mardi Gras Saturday

Dig out the masks, the cheap beads, put on your fine feathers and head to downtown Wake Forest Saturday, Feb. 14, for the Mardi Gras Street Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is all free and all fun for children and adults alike with face painters, an inflatable playground, special contests and more.

One highlight is the Mardi Gras Walking Parade. The lineup begins about 12:45 p.m. in Centennial Plaza in front of Wake Forest Town Hall on Brooks Street, and the march will start at 1 p.m., winding up East Owen Avenue and north along South White Street, ending in the Depot Parking Lot. No registration is required, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. Youngsters are invited to ride bicycles, be pulled in a wagon, roller skate or walk. Bikers must wear their helmets.

There will be awards for costumes and decorations as well as Most Festive Family.

Go to the town’s website www.wakeforestnc.gov to find a full schedule of the day’s events.
