*The annual Wake Forest Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church on Friendship Chapel Road. Everyone in the community is invited to the free event and to share in the light supper that will be served from 6 to 7 p.m.

*The Wake Forest Farmers Market will return to Renaissance Plaza on Saturday, Jan. 23, with its usual winter hours, 10 a.m. to noon.

*The Wake Forest Historical Association’s annual membership meeting will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wake Forest Historical Museum. A new board member and officers will be elected. Michelle Michael, a senior planner with the Town of Wake Forest, will provide an update about the rehabilitation/renovation of the Ailey Young House.

*The Northern Wake Relay for Life will kick off the 2016 relay Tuesday, Jan. 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in The Mill Room at The Factory on South Main Street. See the article in this issue for details.

*The Wake Forest Town Board will hold its annual winter planning retreat Friday, Jan. 29, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Renaissance Centre. It is open to the public. Call Town Clerk Deeda Harris to arrange if you want breakfast and lunch.

*Due to renovations around the Community House, the Feb. 4 and March 3 meetings of the Wake Forest Woman’s Club will be held in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 834 Durham Road.

*Wake Forest’s Mardi Gras will take over downtown on Saturday, Feb. 6. The free event features a people’s parade, contests, food and fun. See article in this week’s issue for more details.

*A Special Needs Valentine Party will be hosted by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street. See article in this week’s issue for details.

*Creation Care: A Bird’s Perspective will be the topic when a National Audubon Society leader leads a community workshop Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the fellowship hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Durham Road. See article in this issue for more details.

*The State of the Town Dinner will be held Monday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts. See the article in this issue to purchase tickets.

*A Night of Comedy will be presented by the Wake Forest Rotary Club and the Wake Forest High School Band Boosters on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. See information about tickets and attractions in this week’s issue.
