*The National Day of Prayer will be observed Thursday, May 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Centennial Plaza at 301 Brooks Street. Several local pastors will speak in united prayer for our nation, state and community.

*The Wake Forest Farmers Market will be open in Renaissance Plaza on Saturday, May 7, with its regular spring, summer and fall hours, 8 a.m. to noon.

*Meet in the Street, Wake Forest’s popular spring street festival, will take over downtown streets on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*Join the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club for its fund-raising Bingo Monday, May 9, and every Monday night at The Factory in the Mill Room upstairs. It begins at 7 p.m. The money raised goes to funding their scholarship, dictionaries for Wake County third-grade classrooms and countless other activities which benefit children.

*An information meeting about the proposed Wake County Transportation Plan will be held Monday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Wake County Northern Regional Center at 350 East Holding Avenue, Wake Forest. Go to www.wakecountytransit.com to see the full plan.

*The preliminary recommendations for the Renaissance Plan Update will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 6 p.m. in the second-floor board chamber at Wake Forest Town Hall on Brooks Street.

*The first Music at Midday will be enjoyed in Centennial Plaza in front of town hall at 301 Brooks Street Thursday, May 12, for an hour beginning at 12:15 p.m. Drybread Road will be the featured musicians, and there will be several food and dessert trucks on Brooks selling lunch and refreshments. *Friday Night on White will happen for the second time on Friday, May 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit local shops and art galleries, listen to music and enjoy time with friends.

*The annual Wake Forest Cemetery Tour will take place Saturday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is free to all comers interested in the history and the people in the town cemetery on North White Street.

*The Mad Hatters Tea Party & Art Market, the Wake Forest Garden Club’s major fundraising activity, will be held Saturday, May 14, at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 North Main Street. Shop the market or buy tickets for the tea and garden seminars.

*Jazz and Juleps on the rose-covered terrace at Carillon Assisted Living Sunday, May 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. sound wonderful, and it is to raise funds for the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. Even better. See description in this week’s issue.

*The Wake Forest Historical Association will host a presentation about Mitchell Mill State Park from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, in the Wake Forest Historical Museum on North Main Street. Everyone is invited to the free event, and there will be refreshments.

*The VFW’s 11th annual Spaghetti Dinner in honor of Flag Day will be held Tuesday, June 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Border Restaurant, 712 North Main Street. Tickets are $5 each and are available from VFW members or at the door.

*The first Wake Forest Home & Garden Show hosted by the Renaissance Centre will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14. The hours will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. A variety of exhibits and workshops will be offered. Contact Anna Bolton – abolton@wakeforestnc.gov – to reserve a booth.

*This is definitely a ways away, but dog and pet lovers will want to mark their calendars for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, when the fourth annual Dirty Dogs Pet Extravaganza will take place in E. Carroll Joyner Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. One of the events will be the Ultimate Air Dogs competition and show. More later.
