*The Wake Forest Farmers Market will be open in Renaissance Plaza on Saturday, April 30, with its regular spring, summer and fall hours, 8 a.m. to noon.
*Join the Wake Forest Kiwanis Club for its fund-raising Bingo Monday, May 2, and every Monday night at The Factory in the Mill Room upstairs. It begins at 7 p.m. The money raised goes to funding their scholarship, dictionaries for Wake County third-grade classrooms and countless other activities which benefit children.
*The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is holding a meet and greet for U.S. Representative George Holding on Tuesday, May 3, from 10 to 10:40 a.m. in the lower level meeting room at the new Wake Electric building on South Franklin Street. The easiest access to the parking lot is from Wait Avenue. Holding is running in the 2nd Congressional District which almost encircles Wake County in the Republican primary against Representative Renee Elmers (the incumbent in the changed district still under review) and physician Greg Brannon. The Democratic candidates in District 2 are Steven E. Hight, John P. McNeil, Ron Sanyal, Jane Watson and Elton R. Brewington. The primary elections are set for June 7.
*Midday Music at Miller, a lunchtime musical interlude from noon to 1 p.m., will kick off Thursday, May 5, with music to be announced soon. People can enjoy the park between South Taylor and South Franklin streets, listen to music and eat lunch. Food trucks may be added to the free event.
*Meet in the Street, Wake Forest’s popular spring street festival, will take over downtown streets on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
*An information meeting about the proposed Wake County Transportation Plan will be held Monday, May 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Wake County Northern Regional Center at 350 East Holding Avenue, Wake Forest. Go to www.wakecountytransit.com to see the full plan.
*The annual Wake Forest Cemetery Tour will take place Saturday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is free to all comers interested in the history and the people in the town cemetery on North White Street.
*The Mad Hatters Tea Party & Art Market, the Wake Forest Garden Club’s major fundraising activity, will be held Saturday, May 14, at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 North Main Street. Shop the market or buy tickets for the tea and garden seminars.
*This is definitely a ways away, but dog and pet lovers will want to mark their calendars for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, when the fourth annual Dirty Dogs Pet Extravaganza will take place in E. Carroll Joyner Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. One of the events will be the Ultimate Air Dogs competition and show. More later.
