Riley Michael Coenen

Wake Forest

Riley Michael Coenen was granted his angel wings on April 19, 2016. Riley’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. That sweet boy would light up a room as soon as he walked in and make you laugh like no one else could. His one-liners would make you laugh until you cried. When he gave you a hug or a cuddle you could feel the love in every single second of it and you knew he meant it. With Riley’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his smile, he will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, April 23, 2016, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Surrat officiating.

Riley was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Robert J. and Sonya Coates Coenen, and was a third grade student at the North Carolina Connections Academy.  Riley enjoyed Star Wars, reenacting light saber battles with his friends.  He enjoyed riding his scooter around his neighborhood, and spent many Sunday nights laughing while watching his favorite show, “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”  He was always building with his Legos and mastering his skills at Minecraft.  He had a passion for dogs and animals.

In addition to his parents, Riley is survived by his fraternal grandmother, Marcelle Coenen; maternal grandparents, Dianne and Glen Coates; aunts, Kristie Parcell, Jolie Russ and her husband, John; uncles, Martin Coenen and his wife, Christine, Michael Coenen, Marc Coenen; and cousins, Colby Parcell, Sadie and Langdon Russ, and Danielle and Gabrielle Coenen.

Memorials may be made in Riley’s name to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC, 27603, www.spcawake.org.
