Brief Bits

First, a rumor about The Factory on South Main Street and the ball fields managed by North Wake Baseball is that the new owners, the MacSydney Company II LLC, who purchased the facilities last year, plan to convert the ball fields into retail and condo housing.

Truth or rumor? Someone who was familiar with the sale but is not connected to MacSydney says there is no truth to it in the immediate future. During the sale negotiations there was what he called “a conceptual plan” to do something like that in the future. North Wake Baseball does still have a lease and apparently has the right to purchase the fields at some point. The Gazette will be in touch with the owners as soon as possible.

Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home & Cremation Service has opened in the past week at 1051 Durham Road, which was once called Crenshaw Hall, home for over 100 years of the Crenshaw-Williams-Jones family with ties to other once well-known families such as Harris.

The Town of Wake Forest and Cameron Park II LTD LLC, which is Christopher Roan, Bob Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson, apparently have not been able to negotiate a satisfactory settlement to the suit against the town brought by Cameron Park, saying it has deeds to the land between The Cotton Company and B&W Hardware, which the town says is an extension of East Owen Avenue. The matter was the subject of a closed session between the Wake Forest Town Board and the Cameron Park principals but no action was taken afterward.

  1. We appreciate Jodi’s comments — Crenshaw Hall was her family home though she never lived there — but, as we all do, she made an error.Laurie is married to Andy Wheeler, not Jeff, and it is Andy who has been in the funeral home business for 12 years.

  3. Laurie Wheeler invited me to meet her and Jeff just 2 weeks before their opening. Laurie loves Crenshaw Hall’s history and beauty and seems excited for the opportunity to be there. The family cemetery in the side yard will be kept in excellent shape. Jeff Wheeler has been in the funeral business for 12 years and Stricklands Fuineral Home in Lousiburg, according a friend of mine who lives there, is the best. I couldn’t be happier. I wish them well and look forward to helping them preserve some of my family’s memorabilia and history.
