Brief Bits

Some of you may be storing a few bags of books for the Friends of the Wake Forest Public Library’s Book Sale. However, Friends’ President Jennifer Davis has announced the board’s decision to cancel the book sale this year. Cancellation of the sale is a result of a couple of factors. The board has four vacancies it has been unable to fill and membership in the Friends has decreased. Both factors result in inadequate support from the membership for the labor-intensive book sale. The Friends will in the coming months be evaluating how the group can best serve the local library, which is due for closure and total renovation in 2018, and the people of the Wake Forest area.

Coming up on Saturday, March 12, is an event that will benefit a worthwhile and enthusiastic local youth group. It is the third annual Battalion Bazaar for the Wake Forest High School Army Junior ROTC. The admission is only $2 or a can of food to donate – why not make it two or four? – and it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school. Look for signs. Go early for the best selection.
