Brief Bits

So Google is coming to Raleigh and to Cary and other western Wake towns. That leaves Wake Forest, Knightdale, Wendell and Zebulon as the red-headed stepchildren.

* * * *

A tour of new and future subdivision sites over the weekend was instructive. Traditions, of course, is booming and like other ongoing subdivisions was not part of the tour.

Instead, we navigated very carefully through the ruts and deep puddles in Copper Beech Lane to see that no dirt has been turned yet in the Tryon subdivision, which really needs access to sewer to proceed with development. Only about 100 of its 415 lots on its 131.5 acres can be served with City of Raleigh sewer through the adjacent Kings Glen subdivision.

The developer has tried to purchase easements for a sewer line from the south side of Wait Avenue to serve the rest of the land, but two landowners are refusing to sell. The matter may go to condemnation.

The sewer line from the south side of Wait Avenue, if it is connected, will mean that a large swath of land all the way to Averette Road can be served by gravity sewer in addition to the one subdivision.

We had to go through Kings Glen, where there are huge piles of dirt and lots of heavy equipment right next to houses in all stages of construction including sales.

There was a short detour to look at The Reserve to the north of Bishops Grant, where it appears all or nearly all the available lots have been sold and expensive homes have been built.

Then it was out to Wait Avenue, through Heritage to Rogers Road to see that there has been no visible change in the land where the Courtyards at Heritage will be built but that Stonemill Farms is ready for business with a sales office and new streets.

Finally, we did look quickly at The Homestead at Heritage at the end of Heritage Branch Road where there is lots of activity with new street signs and a few new homes.

Wake Forest’s growth is coming along quite nicely, it seems.

  1. Regarding your Google Gigabit service for Raleigh comment-
    What is happening with Wake Forest being the first to get RST’s
    fiber delivering Gigabit service to the businesses and residents?
    I do not think that Wake Forest is the red headed step-child in this
    situation.

    1. RST Fiber was delayed by months by the Army Corp of Engineers approving the river crossing. They decided to pack up and start installing fiber in Charlotte instead. No word on when they will return or if they will even continue.
