Wake Forest’s official Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, at the Veterans Memorial on the Heritage Golf Course near the clubhouse.
The ceremony will be conducted by the members of the Walter E. Cole Memorial American Legion Post 8466 and will express gratitude for those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy. There will be ample seating, with covered seating for those who require shade.
A special tribute will be paid to the World War II veterans attending the ceremony. The program will include opening and closing prayers, the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and speeches honoring the deceased veterans. A memorial wreath will be laid.
On Saturday, American Legion members will meet at the hall on East Holding Avenue at 8 a.m. to receive the 1,000 American flags they will use to decorate veterans’ graves in 15 area cemeteries, honoring the local heroes who responded to the nation’s request to protect our freedom.
