{"id":4576,"date":"2016-02-10T16:39:03","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T21:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wakeforestgazette.com\/?p=4576"},"modified":"2016-02-10T16:39:03","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T21:39:03","slug":"how-to-welcome-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wakeforestgazette.com\/how-to-welcome-birds\/","title":{"rendered":"How to welcome birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBirds can\u2019t talk, but they are sending an urgent message,\u201d says Lena Gallitano, a local, state, and National Audubon Society leader.\u00a0 \u201cOur planet needs help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To emphasize this message more clearly, Gallitano will lead a community workshop, \u201cCreation Care: A Bird\u2019s Perspective,\u201d at St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9:30 to12 noon in the fellowship hall.<\/p>\n<p>The program will include a talk on the future status of birds while exploring Audubon North Carolina conservation initiatives to create bird-friendly communities throughout the state. Participants will develop personal Creation Care \u201caction plans\u201d that will help each individual make a difference, not only for birds but for the world as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you come to this project as a nature lover, a concerned citizen, or someone who wants to leave a better world for your children and grandchildren, it will take all of us acting together to secure a better future for the birds and the planet we love,\u201d Gallitano says.<\/p>\n<p>Past president of the Wake Audubon Society, Gallitano currently serves on the Audubon NC Board of Trustees and the steering committee for the North Carolina Birding Trail.\u00a0 In 2013, she received the Atlantic Flyway, William Dutcher Award from The National Audubon Society, and was named News and Observer \u201cTar Heel of the Week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please contact Helen Holt, <a href=\"mailto:hwholt09@gmail.com\">hwholt09@gmail.com<\/a> or 919-556-1958.\u00a0 St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church is located at 830 Durham Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27587, phone 919-556-3656.\u00a0 The workshop is free;
