WFPD lists the top three high-risk intersections

The Wake Forest Police Department recently announced the top three high-risk intersections in Wake Forest based on the number of accidents that occurred in these areas during the 2017-18 fiscal year:
* Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Agora Drive/Wake Union Church Road – 55 accidents

* Capital Boulevard (US 1)/South Main Street (US1-A)/Falls of Neuse Road – 51 accidents
* Capital Boulevard (US 1)/Burlington Mills Road – 46 accidents
Failure to reduce speed, inattention and distracted driving were the most often cited contributing factors in these accidents.
Police officials are taking this opportunity to urge motorists to be alert and proceed with caution through these and all intersections.
In an effort to make the high-risk intersections safer, officers will be conducting enforcement campaigns in and around these areas.

  1. First and foremost, the issue is CRASHES, very few are accidents as there many factors of people violating some fraction of the driving laws. If everyone followed the rules of the road, the intersections noted would have very few accidents (ie. blown tire, etc). There would still be congestion and frustration, but that fault is of the DOT and Town of WF for not planning appropriately. DOT and WF likes to be reactive, not proactively plan. And of course let’s not let the builders be responsible for adding more homes without improving connection areas to already bogged down roads.

  2. We don’t need fewer residents or more traffic restriction. We need folks to pay attention and drive. And by the way, is there anyone in particular I can help vote out of office for supporting the fiasco of traffic islands along South Main at Capital Boulevard? Rant complete…thanks.
