WFFD needs help renovating the old ‘Smoke Trailer’

The Wake Forest Fire Department is asking for the community’s help renovating and restoring a “Smoke Trailer” used to teach children important lessons about the dangers of fires, how to prevent them, and ways to escape a burning home.
Donations of money, labor, and materials are needed to renovate and upfit the trailer, so it functions as a mobile classroom.
Once the renovations are completed, the Smoke Trailer will be used at schools, camps, and community events to teach kids what to do if a fire breaks out at home. The unit will be specially equipped with appliances, smoke machines, and heaters that can create conditions mimicking the signs of danger.
“Fire education and prevention are cornerstones of our operations,” said Firefighter First Class Glenn Ebron. “We’re excited to partner with our community to renovate the Smoke Trailer and make our mobile classroom a reality.”
Online donations are accepted at www.wakeforestnc.gov/fire/smoke-trailer. For more information, or to donate labor and/or materials, contact Ebron at 919-556-1966 or gebron@wakeforestnc.gov.
All contributors will be recognized on the exterior of the trailer and on the WFFD website.
If you wonder why the Smoke Trailer needs renovating, Ebron provided the answers.
“The decision to rebuild the trailer stems from a combination of factors, including its age and the need to ensure the highest standards of safety for our community. Over time, the trailer has experienced wear and tear, which affects its functionality and the ability to provide optimal fire safety training. The renovations aim to address these issues and enhance the learning experience for our residents.
“By modernizing the trailer, we are demonstrating our commitment to proactive fire safety measures. Our goal is to provide the community with access to state-of-the-art training facilities that accurately simulate real-life fire scenarios. This empowers individuals to make informed decisions and take appropriate actions during emergencies, ultimately contributing to the safety and well-being of our town.
“We also wanted to give the community and businesses an opportunity to be a part of this program. Life safety initiatives should be a partnership with the community. We are always looking for ways to improve our community and when we found this trailer, we knew it would be a great tool in our Fire and Life Safety program.
“We appreciate your interest in covering this topic, as it highlights the importance of continually investing in fire safety infrastructure and educational initiatives. If there is any additional information you require please do not hesitate to ask.”

  1. Would it be a better investment to collaborate with other departments in the region to buy a state of the art unit that can be shared by multiple communities?
