Wear your costume and get a treat

Children who wear their Halloween costumes to the Wake Forest Farmers Market this Saturday will each get a treat. And they can join members of Wake Forest ARTS and make paper puppets in the children’s tent.

Everyone can get freshly-made farmers market food at the market’s new vendor, the Cockadoodle Moo Food Truck which is parked at one side of the Renaissance Plaza on Brooks Street, the market’s new home.

Jason Ellis will be back making music on his keyboard. Remember the market does not pay the musicians; stick a few dollars in the tip jar.

The market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon with all the makings for your meals all week long, from meats to desserts with fresh-cut flower bouquet to brighten your dinner table.

Shoppers are reminded that beginning the following Saturday, Nov. 1, the market will operate on its winter hours and be open from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday until the end of April except for Saturday, Dec. 13, when the downtown will be filled with preparations for the Wake Forest Christmas Parade.

Now is the time to order your Thanksgiving turkeys. They are growing on the farms and are almost ready.

If you are ready to redecorate your front porch or yard for fall you will find mums in a rainbow of colors, hay bales, corn stalks and pumpkins.

You will also find house plants, handmade jewelry, peacock feathers, hand-knit baby hats, neck scarves and gloves, soaps, lotions, honey, micro greens, baked goods including gluten-free baked goods, pansies and perennial plants, fresh cut flowers and dried flower wreaths, along with a wide variety of meats – beef, chicken, pork, lamb, turkey, rabbit and goat – and fresh local produce in season. This fine weather has brought out all the winter greens, even spinach chard.

See the market on Facebook, take a look at all the vendors and their wares as well as special events at www.wakeforestfarmersmarket.org or call 919-671-9269 if you need information.
