Wake Forest Weekly sold to Wilson Times

In the Jan. 31 edition of The Wake Forest Weekly, Publisher Todd Allen announced he has sold the long-time weekly newspaper, its editions for Rolesville and Franklin County and the Butner-Creedmoor News to The Wilson Times Company, a print and digital media company with a daily newspaper in Wilson and two weekly newspapers in Kenly and Spring Hope.

The transition to the new ownership took place before the Jan. 31 announcement. The information for this article is based on the announcement in The Wake Forest Weekly.

Keven Zepezauer, the Wilson Times president and publisher, is the new publisher for the Wake Weekly group and a marketing agency, Kingsdale Media, also part of the sale. Tracy McLamb, general manager of The Daily record in Dunn, will also be the general manager for the Wake Forest and Butner-Creedmoor papers.

Zepezauer, according to The Wake Forest Weekly, said, “We’re excited to grow our family of community newspapers, and we’re committed to maintaining the Wake Weekly and Butner-Creedmoor News’ status as the leading sources of news and information in their regions. Joining forces with The Wilson Times will add resources and help these paper grow their presence online and on social media so we can update our readers with developing news around the clock.”

The Allen family has owned The Wake Weekly since 1952 when Robert W. Allen and his wife, Margaret Allen, bought the newspaper from his brother. Bob and Peggy published the newspaper for nearly 50 years. When they retired, they sold the newspaper to their son, Greg, and his wife, Janet Rose. It was later sold to a second son, Todd Allen, and his wife, Clellie.

  1. I had a lot of good experiences with the Wake Weekly in the sixties as the owner of the Glen Royal Cafe and Gene Baker Insurance agency. Also as the 2nd President and co-founder of the WF Jaycees, Captain and founder of the WF Rescue Squad and Chairman and founder of the WF Community Council. In 1967 I got a BS Degree from Campbell Univ and sold my businesses and became a Distributive Education Co Op Teacher at CB Aycock HS in Pikeville. I went through WF yesterday to attend a funeral at the Falls Baptist Church. It’s unbelievable how much it has grown.
