Wake Forest one of safest NC cities

Safety is something most people look for when choosing where to live in and residents of Wake Forest may be in one of the safest areas in North Carolina, according to a new study.

The Town of Wake Forest was named the fifth-safest city in North Carolina by SafeHome.org. The ranking calculates a Safety Score for major cities in the US. The higher the Safety Score, the safer data shows the city to be. With a population of nearly 40,000 and 46 reported violent crimes, along with several other factors, SafeHome.org gave Wake Forest a safety score of 81.48.

The study considers several different factors when assigning a safety score. First is the FBI’s latest report of how many and what types of crimes occurred in each city over a single year. The city’s crime trends are also considered, so cities where crime is on the decline are given a higher Safety Score and vice-versa. The study also examines the number of law enforcement officers compared to the population.

The study also analyzed different demographic metrics from U.S. Census data such as population density, unemployment rate, median income and education level.

Other Wake County cities and towns joining Wake Forest in the top 10 list were Holly Springs, 1; and Cary, 2. To view the entire list, visit www.safehome.org/safest-cities/N
