Update for Tri-Area volunteers

Hello! As you know, we are in the midst of starting the much-anticipated renovation. Here are four things to know those that regularly volunteer,
1)   Closing Dates: From December 22 until December 31, we will not distribute food. We will still need volunteers at TAM to help move any items remaining in the building to the pods and to help sort/store any donations that come in. We plan to do this on Monday, December 23, and Friday, December 27. On Friday, January 3, we plan to work on setting up the temporary building. All of these events run from 8 a.m. until noon. Please click HERE to email Sandy Matthews and let her know if you can help. We will reopen for food distribution on Monday, January 6.

2)   Temporary Operations: For the months of January and February, we will be operating out of a temporary building. Expect tight quarters, notices of volunteer opportunities on Tuesdays and Fridays in preparation of normal opening days, and changes to our operations as we figure out the best way to function during these transition months. Please bear with us—we will need help and lots of good humor to keep our sanity!

3)   Parking:  During renovation, please do not park at TAM.  The parking behind TAM belongs to the auto business and hairdresser, so please don’t park there.  Please park along South White Street. We need to leave E. Holding Avenue open for our clients. Any parking at TAM unused by the construction crew must remain clear for our van and truck to have access for drop offs, etc.

4) Distribution Hours Change: Starting January 6, our permanent hours for distribution will change to 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and third Saturdays.Volunteers should continue to arrive anytime from 8 a.m. on. Retail pick up schedules will continue at same schedule.

Our goal is for the change in hours to reduce confusion from having different hours on Saturdays and give us more time to prepare for distribution—particularly in processing our retail donations so that we know what we have to work with so we can more evenly distribute to our clients. If you currently leave at 12 or 12:30, please do not feel pressured to stay longer. Of course, if you want to stay, we would love to spend more time with you!

We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year! We can’t thank you enough for all that you do throughout the year to keep us running as efficiently as we do. TAM’s ability to support our community is very much dependent upon you, our volunteers.
