Two races will test Wake Forest walkers and runners

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will commemorate “National Physical Fitness Month” in May by offering a 50-Mile Walking Challenge for area residents ages 11 and older.

The concept is simple. Parks and Rec is challenging area residents to walk a total of 50 miles in May and use tracking cards to record their progress. Walking locations may include neighborhoods, schools, churches, parks, and greenways – just to name a few.

There is no cost to participate, and online registration is open through Friday, April 29, at https://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/Community/Program (search “Walking Challenge).

Tracking cards will be emailed to all registered participants and available for pickup at Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road.

Everyone ages 11 and over who registers, completes 50 miles, and returns their tracking cards to the Joyner Park Community Center by Friday, June 3, will receive a commemorative T-shirt (while supplies last) and be entered into a prize drawing for a $50 Visa gift card on Saturday, June 4, at the E. Carroll Joyner Park Amphitheater at the conclusion of the National Trails Day 5K.

And,

Runners and walkers are invited to register for the annual Embrace Uganda 5k coming up Saturday, June 4, in downtown Wake Forest from 8 to 11 a.m.
Sign up to run or walk at https://EmbraceUganda.org. Your registration and donations help provide clean water, medical care and education to some of the 2.3 million orphaned children in Uganda.
The 5k begins and ends near Town Hall on Taylor Street. Official race timing is by Young & Associates, and the course is USATF certified.

All participants receive an event T-shirt and free participation in the JerryCan Challenge, which replicates a Ugandan child’s daily trek just to find clean water. The event also features a Ugandan craft fair, raffles and prizes.

Corporate sponsorships range from $500 to $125 and offer branding on event banners, T-shirts and websites. To run or walk in the 5k, or make a tax-deductible donation, please call 919-760-3520 or email Marty.Coward@EdwardJones.com.
