Two businesses, 24 homes permitted in April

Building permits for two new businesses, Wake Forest Charter Academy and Discovery Pointe Childcare Center, were issued by the Wake Forest Inspections Department in April along with permits for 22 single-family houses and two townhouses.

The charter school, operated by National Heritage Academies of Grand Rapids, Mich., will be built at 1851 Friendship Chapel Road behind Gateway Commons shopping center. The builder is CSM Group. The new building is valued at $4.5 million, and the fees totaled $49,795.61.

The daycare center will be owned by Jan and Hong Chen of Wake Forest. The building at 1212 Heritage Links Drive is being constructed by Venture Construction Company and will add about $1.85 million to the town’s tax base. The fees totaled $61,819.63. Both businesses will open in the fall of this year.

Also listed in the report are the completed fit-ups and pre-occupancy inspections. There was one fit-up, and it was for Dr. Larry Morray’s dental practice at 616 Dr. Calvin Jones Highway (N.C. 98 bypass). The inspections was for Right Foot Forward, which has moved to 845 South Main Street, Campare Insurance Company at 851-A Wake Forest Business Park on Durham Road, and Benchmark Community Bank at 12335-206 Wake Union Church Road. This will be the 12th branch office for the bank which has its headquarters in Kenbridge, Va.

There were two permits for demolition. Emergency Reconstruction was issued one permit for thehouse at 417 Cottesbrook Drive in the Bowling Green subdivision where there was an extensive house fire on April 12. The house is owned by Scott and Jessica Jones, and the family was able to escape without injury. The second permit was to Williams Custom Builders for a small house at 221 Forestville Road (the short section between South Main Street and the CSX rail line) where the previous owner died without a will and the house is now owned by DRCW Investments, which is David and Rachel Williams.

The townhouses will be built by Heritage Spring LLC in the Wildflower section of Heritage South. They will be at 1125 and 1127 Golden Poppy Court and will add $261,000 to the tax base. The fee for each was $4,489.94.
