Tryon vote tops town agenda

Whether to approve the Tryon subdivision master plan is possibly the most contentious item on the Wake Forest Town Board’s agenda for Tuesday night, June 17.

The question of whether to raise the property tax rate from 51 to 52 cents per $100 valuation was decided this week when three of the commissioners informally agreed to the increase. There is always, however, a chance that the formal vote on June 17 will be different.

Last week the Wake Forest Planning Board voted 4 to 3 to recommend approval of the Tryon rezoning to GR 10 and approve the master plan with 279 single-family lots and 136 townhouse lots. A number of neighbors protested the plan because of its impacts on wetlands and local streams all the way to the Neuse River.

Along with the master plan and rezoning, the town board will consider whether to annex the 131.49 acres. One complication is that the developer only has access to sewer for the first phase of the project which lies south of Oak Grove Church Road on Copper Beech Lane.

In other business next Tuesday, the commissioners will be asked to renew a contract with Waste Industries for commercial garbage collection in town and consider an extension of the contract with Republic Services, which provides pickup for residential garbage and recycling.

They will also consider the design contract amendment with SEPI Engineering for the Ligon Mill Road improvements.

The meeting will begin at 7 a.m. in the second floor meeting room of Wake Forest Town Hall and will be televised on Channel 10.
