Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry has received a $2,700 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for hunger relief in the community.
The pantry will use the grant to purchase fresh food items to supplement non-perishable items it has distributed to families each year since it was founded in 1988. Located in downtown Wake Forest, Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry is the largest food pantry in the geographic area it serves, which includes nearly 800 families a month living in Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville and surrounding areas of Wake County.
“This generous donation from Food Lion will help us extend our Fresh Food initiative to purchase produce and other fresh foods, such as milk and eggs, throughout the remainder of this year,” Michael Burger, board chairman for the ministry, said. “It’s our goal to provide a minimum of three fresh food items to a household each month and 100 percent of this grant will go towards helping us achieve that goal.”
The pantry started its Fresh Food initiative in October 2017 with money from its first fundraiser, Stop Hunger Feed Hope dinner and auction. It will continue to raise funds for the program at this year’s Stop Hunger Feed Hope event scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19, at Wake Forest Presbyterian Church from 4 to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and include entertainment, a door prize raffle ticket and dinner.
Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry is a non-profit 501(c)3, non-denominational, volunteer-run organization providing hunger relief in the Wake Forest community. The pantry relies exclusively on the generosity of the community and donations like the $2,700 grant from The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to fulfil its mission.
Every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m., Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry provides for the hungry. The pantry distributes approximately 25,000 food items to 800 food insecure households each month – the equivalent of 200 tons of food per year.
A grocery bag with assorted canned foods, a meat, produce and other fresh food items, a breakfast and desert item, along with other food assortments as available are given. For more information, visitwww.TriAreaMinistry.org, www.facebook.com/TriAreaMinistryFoodPantry or call 919-556-7144.

Through Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion is working to create a better tomorrow by uniting with customers and partners to eliminate the choices families are forced to make when they are hungry.
