Town ready to sell bonds for North Main lighting

During next Tuesday’s Wake Forest Town Board meeting, the commissioners will be asked to authorize Finance Director Aileen Staples to sell bonds to provide the funds for new street lights and underground utilities along North Main Street and the reconstruction of the John B. Cole Substation on West Cedar Avenue.

The amount of the bonds will not exceed $2.5 million, Staples said, and they will be repaid through the electric system’s revenues.

The North Main lighting project is the first of a town-wide project to improve street lighting.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in town hall with a public hearing about the proposed update on the five-year Capital Improvement Plan. The commissioners held a work session Wednesday, March 12, about that plan. There will also be a public hearing about a request for contiguous annexation submitted by Ammons Property Limited Partnership for the 73 acres at the end of Heritage Branch Road where clearing is underway for the Homestead at Heritage subdivision the commissioners approved in June.

There was no planning board meeting this month so there will be no planning items. The commissioners will be asked to agree to provide more funds — $53,0071.37 – for two projects, the Smith & Sanford Creek Greenway and the Heritage Lake Road Sidewalk project. They will also be asked to approve a contract with a consultant firm for a wayfinding signage plan for the town’s parks and greenways.

Town board meetings are broadcast live on Channel 10.

Anyone who wishes to speak to the commissioners about an issue or topic not on the agenda should contact Town Clerk Deeda Harris dharris@wakeforestnc.gov 919-435-9413 before 3 p.m. the day of the meeting. Mayor Vivian Jones will recognize you and give you three to five minutes to speak.
