The Wake Forest Public Works Department is preparing for the onslaught of Hurricane Florence and its aftermath, Director Magda Holloway said on Monday.
“I am as hopeful as you are with mainly rain, but we are preparing for the worst.” She listed all the preparations.
*We have started cleaning storm drains, and encourage the public to get out and help us clear debris from the top of catch basins.
*We have inventoried necessary supplies and materials that we think may be needed and started to stock up.
*We have ensured all vehicles, equipment, and chain saws are fueled and functioning properly.
*We are securing items on the yard so they don’t become objects that can be blown around with the wind.
*We are making accommodations so our staff can be ready to respond.
*We have agencies on standby in case additional assistance is needed in this area.
*We have checked all radios to ensure they are working properly in case we lose cell service.
The department includes Wake Forest Power, which will have crews out as soon as possible dealing with downed power lines and other problems with the electric system. They will be joined by crews from the streets and sanitation departments to clear roads and warn drivers of flooded streets.
If you have an electric service outage, call Wake Forest Power at 919-761-7899, an automated service which answers calls around the clock.
