Town history book ‘Connections’ on sale

Just in time for the holidays, The Town of Wake Forest is again offering “Connections…100 Years of Wake Forest History” for $30 each.

Authored by Wake Forest resident and “Wake Forest Gazette” Publisher Carol Pelosi, “Connections… 100 Years of Wake Forest History” was written and released in 2009 to commemorate Wake Forest’s Centennial Celebration.

A treasure trove of pictures, original artwork, and stories recording the people, places, and events of Wake Forest’s first 100 years, the photo-filled hardcover book chronicles the town’s rich history and details its growth from a small college town to a thriving community of more than 50,000 residents.

Connections may be purchased online at www.wakeforestnc.gov/marketplace with credit card or debit card or in person at the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., with cash, check, credit card or debit card. After ordering your copy, stop by the Information Desk in the lobby of Town Hall at your convenience to pick it up.

“Connections… 100 Years of Wake Forest History” makes a wonderful gift for family and friends, is a great family heritage piece, and treasured keepsake. For more information, call 919-435-9400.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Dear Carol!!! Know how those tremors can mess up a page.
Bless you for putting forth a gazette this week. Can’t wait to get re-acquainted with your
    Wake Forest history. JK

  2. Connections is a terrific book which traces the history of Wake Forest. It has brilliant writing and photos on every page which trace the history of Wake Forest from the days of horse drawn carriages and old buildings on White Street in black and white, to the days when color photos became commonplace. It is very professionally put together and would make a splendid gift for yourself or anyone interested in the history of Wake Forest.

  3. This is a wonderful and detailed history of the first 100 years of Wake Forest that each community resident should be aware of. It was a lovely read with great historical photos.

    1. Thank you for your praise, but I did not produce this book alone. Two women, Jean McCamy and Stephanie Kaeberlein, had begun the process after someone at the town asked them to produce a book. Jean, a poet and sculptor, was working on the business side and Stephanie is a tremendously talented designer. See her work at the Northern Wake Senior Center. They asked me to write the history. Jean and I spent back-breaking very literally putting the large books at the Wake Weekly on a table, bending over to find the articles and photos for the book, then typing what we could into our laptops. Jean and Stephanie grew frustrated with the printers ideas about the book’s design; Stephanie took that over. What you see is their work. What I did is just what you read.
