Top Mardi Gras with a dress-up ball

Area residents are invited to enjoy live New Orleans-style entertainment, great food, dancing and fun during the Wake Forest Mardi Gras Renaissance Ball on Saturday, March 1.

The swinging jazz band Boneslinger will headline the event at the new Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St. Doors open at 7 p.m. Attire is black-tie optional, but Mardi Gras masks are encouraged.

According to the Boneslinger website, “Dave Wright, powerhouse vocalist and trombonist formerly of The Countdown Quartet and The Squirrel Nut Zippers brings his latest creation to life with Boneslinger. Staying true to his old-school R&B, New Orleans-jazz roots, Boneslinger brings a fresh brew of original music with a killin’ retro vibe. You’ll also hear timeless cuts from Professor Longhair, Booker T, Hank Williams Sr., Ray Charles and much more. Dave Wright’s powerful and soulful trombone solos are one of a kind and always an audience delight! You’ll be a “Bone Head” for life once you’ve heard this band!”

Tickets to the Renaissance Ball cost $60 per person and include a buffet dinner provided by Blue Fins Bistro, cash bar and one drink ticket.

Tickets can be purchased online with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit card. Tickets are also available at the Parks and Recreation Department window in the lobby of the Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., and can be purchased with cash, check or credit card. A $2.95 processing fee will be added to the cost of any ticket purchased with a credit card.

The evening’s festivities will culminate with the coronation of a Renaissance Ball King & Queen. Each guest will receive two free nomination tickets on which to nominate their choice for King & Queen. Additional tickets may be purchased to increase your nominees’ chances of winning. The winners will be drawn from among the submitted tickets and crowned our Renaissance Ball King & Queen.

Proceeds from the Renaissance Ball will be used to support cultural arts programming at the Renaissance Centre.
