Just some more information about that lightning strike and subsequent fire at the Northern Wake Senior Center on July 6, 2022.
Mickey Rochelle, the town’s public facilities manager, said recently, “The lighting struck the peak [of the roof] near the dining room causing fire damage to some sheathing and a truss. The sprinklers in that area activated and caused water to flood the southern half of the building. We had more damage from water than fire. We do not have a final number from the insurance at his time and the estimated cost is $275,000 to $300,000.”
At the time he was still trying to some carpet in one room made to match the existing carpet, the only repair not yet done.
